Firms Revealed For Clyde Commercial Framework

VolkerStevin, Kier Graham Defence and Morgan Sindall have all been assigned to the DIO’s (Defence Infrastructure Organisation) impressive new £1.3bn decade long Clyde Commercial Framework (CCF).

The organisations mentioned above will be providing supervision and guidance along with construction and infrastructure services for the Royal Navy’s nuclear base at Clyde, Scotland.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) aspires to have all eleven of its nuclear submarines based at the facility by within the next two years.

Branded the HMNB Clyde, the site also serves as the Royal Navy’s only integrated operating base.

The framework was obtained through the DIO with backing from consultant firms including Jacobs and Mott MacDonald.

The DIO said selection had been based mainly on the company’s relationship with the Clyde team as well as its skill to work collaboratively.

Various methods of procurement had previously been employed to “varying degrees of success”, the client said, mentioning that on this occasion it wanted an approach that delivered “not only a good construction company but a good partner”.

DIO assistant head of commercial services Ian Arbuckle said: “We have successfully selected three reputable industry partners who have demonstrated a commitment to delivering better value for defence.”

Brian McQuade, Managing Director for Kier Construction, Scotland, said: “We are thrilled to have been appointed to the DIO’s new Clyde Commercial Framework working in joint venture with Graham. Kier was one of the first companies to sign the Armed Forces Corporate Covenant in 2013, putting it at the heart of its policy, and understanding the importance the construction industry plays in supporting the nation’s defence and security. Together we look forward to providing high quality buildings and infrastructure to HMNB Clyde, which will allow the Ministry of Defence to continue to carry out its vital operations effectively.”
